Program Goals: Undergraduate Financial Planning and Wealth Management Major
The overall goal of the financial planning and wealth management program is to expand student understanding of the theory and practice of managing financial resources for individuals, families, and organizations. We pursue this goal through quality teaching and advising, significant research, and appropriate community involvement.
Upon graduation, financial planning and wealth management majors from John Carroll University should have a strong academic foundation that allows them to:
Enter a career in financial planning or wealth management and have the potential to lead.
Enter a quality graduate program in a variety of fields, especially in business.
Seek further professional certification in financial planning or wealth management (for example, as a Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or other related certifications).
Program Learning Goals in Financial Planning and Wealth Management
John Carroll’s financial planning and wealth management program intends to provide students with the foundational knowledge, skills, and abilities to pursue a career in financial planning, wealth management, advanced study in business, or further certification in financial planning, wealth management, and related fields.
Graduating seniors in financial planning and wealth management should have:
Knowledge of taxes and the legal environment as it pertains to financial planning, estate planning, insurance, and retirement planning.
Ability to develop and execute a complete financial plan for an individual, family, and organization.
Ability to recognize limitations of suggested solutions and deal with ambiguity inherent in many situations.
Major Requirements
A total of 67 credit hours as described below:
Business Core:
41 credit hours, including MOL 4461 or MOL 4463. A complete listing of the Business Core can be found under the General Degree Requirements for the Boler College.
Prospective Financial Planning and Wealth Management majors must complete FN 3312 with a minimum grade of C.

Students may choose to pursue a double major in Finance and Financial Planning and Wealth Management. Interested students should consult with their advisors and review the suggested sequence of courses found on the Boler College website.
Students may also choose to double major in Economics and Financial Planning and Wealth Management. Interested students should consult with their advisors on how to complete requirements for both majors.
Professional Experience: Relevant professional work, internship, or volunteer experience is required prior to graduation. This requirement must be satisfied by completing BPD 4490.
