Students earning the bachelor of science in Mathematics will explore the broad world of mathematics in a way that will prepare them to pursue a career or graduate study in an area that values quantitative and analytical thinking. The program aims both to introduce students to career paths stemming from a mathematics major and also connect them to internship and employment opportunities in the region as part of the College of Arts and Sciences Professional Development Program.
Students may choose to declare one or more concentrations within the major. The Concentration in Education is intended for students who wish to also declare the Adolescent/Young Adult Education major.
Program Learning Goals in Mathematics
Students will:
Develop mathematical attitudes and perceptions that support lifelong learning and human flourishing.
Develop quantitative reasoning skills that will enable them to navigate society as engaged and informed citizens.
Develop analytical reasoning skills that facilitate logical, deductive thought processes.
Develop written and oral communication skills emphasizing clarity and precision of language.
Major Requirements for all students
The following Fundamental Mathematics courses:

Note: Students should refer to the registration website to identify appropriate courses to complete the core requirements in the major (i.e., additional writing (AW), capstone (C), and oral presentation (OP) courses).
