Healthcare Career Foundations Minor

The Healthcare Career Foundations minor will enrich the education of students from any major who are preparing for careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, optometry, podiatry, veterinary medicine, physician assistant, physical therapy, public health, or other biomedical fields.  It will provide students with education in the STEM fields complemented with work in ethical leadership development and social sciences with a focus on understanding diverse communities or public health issues.  Students who complete this minor will be better prepared to enter the healthcare workforce and live John Carroll University’s mission of inspiring “individuals to excel in learning, leadership, and service in the region and in the world.”

This minor has the flexibility to meet the needs and interests of individual students from different major fields of study and different healthcare career goals.  As an interdisciplinary program that includes courses from the College of Arts and Sciences and Boler College of Business, this minor will provide students with a foundation in the sciences, ethical leadership, and cultural competency knowledge necessary to provide compassionate healthcare to diverse communities. Students who complete this minor will be better equipped to interact with diverse patients and colleagues, advocate for social justice issues through the lens of healthcare, and develop into inspired leaders in healthcare organizations.

This program brings together areas of study that will provide students with the additional skills and knowledge that medical education and training programs are seeking.
