Course Description
Examines motivations and justifications for European expansion into Asia and Africa during the 19th and 20th centuries, and strategies for accommodation and resistance - and ultimately revolution - developed by newly colonized people. Focuses primarily on Britain and France as imperial powers, and China, India, and parts of Africa as sites where local people ultimately asserted their independence. Prerequisite: EN 125 or EN 1250 or equivalent.
