Accelerated Dual Degree to School Counseling (M.Ed.)

The Accelerated Dual Degree (ADD) Program to School Counseling is designed for exceptionally well-prepared students who wish to earn a Master of Education degree in program by beginning graduate studies during their senior year.

Students must have at least 90 undergraduate credit hours completed, which may include transfer credit, before starting graduate courses. When applying to an accelerated dual degree program, students should have at least 75 credits completed and clearly be on track for the required 90 credit hours.

For students who are accepted, nine credit hours of graduate-level coursework for the graduate program can be completed during the fourth year and will count toward combined undergraduate and graduate requirements, as outlined below.

An additional nine credits may be requested to be taken above the 9 double-counting credits, which will not double-count, but will solely apply to the graduate degree. Such requests must be approved by the Graduate School, and students are responsible for understanding the financial aid ramifications of taking this excess graduate coursework in the senior year.

Students apply for undergraduate graduation (to earn their Bachelor’s degree) in the normal timeframe, following standard deadlines–that is, for the term they are on-track to complete all undergraduate degree requirements, including the minimum 120 credits. Likewise, they apply for graduate graduation following standard deadlines for the term they are on-track to have completed graduate degree requirements.

The Master of Education in School Counseling is designed to meet the academic requirements of the Ohio Department of Education and the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) standards for school counselor education programs and the degree is conferred upon the satisfactory completion of all course requirements, submission of logged contact hours during Practicum and Internship, and a Master's Comprehensive Examination.. Students must also successfully pass all applicable sections of the State of Ohio assessment for licensure as a school counselor.

Students are responsible for understanding the Accelerated Dual Degree policy.
