Undergraduate Readmission

Readmission Process after a Leave of Absence

Students returning to the University after an approved Leave of Absence will be contacted by the Office of the Registrar prior to the semester in which they indicated their return. Instructions on how to re-enroll will be provided at that time.

Students seeking to return to the University who do not have a valid or current Leave of Absence Form on file, including students on Academic Probation, must formally apply for readmission. To apply, students should complete and submit the Application for Readmission.

The readmission process can take several weeks so applications should be submitted at least 10 business days prior to the start of classes. Students who are readmitted are held to degree and curricular requirements in force at the time of their re-entrance to the University unless they are granted special approval by the appropriate Dean.

Students who were on Academic Probation at the end of their last semester at John Carroll are required to register for AS 112 Academic Success Strategies, or to schedule five (5) sessions with an Academic Coach.

Readmission Process after Academic Suspension

Students on Academic Suspension are eligible to return after the lapse of one semester and one summer. To apply for readmission, students should contact the Office of Admission and complete the Application for Readmission.

Students applying for readmission who were on Academic Suspension must have successfully completed 6-9 credit hours at another institution with a GPA of 2.5. Applicants must submit official transcripts from each school attended. Transcripts must be sent directly to John Carroll (we are unable to accept hand-delivered transcripts). Applicants must also complete a written statement, including the following:

  1. Explanation of probable reasons for scholastic deficiencies.

  2. Explanation of the manner in which intervening time has been spent.

  3. Reasons why favorable consideration for readmission should be given.

  4. Why/how they will be successful upon return to JCU.

The readmission process can take several weeks so applications should be submitted at least 10 business days prior to the start of classes. The earliest a suspended student may return to the University and resume taking classes would be the semester immediately following the required period of suspension.

Students who are readmitted are held to degree and curricular requirements in force at the time of their re - entrance to the University unless they are granted special approval by the appropriate Dean. Students who were on Academic Suspension at the end of their last semester at John Carroll are also required to register for AS 112 Academic Success Strategies, or to schedule five (5) sessions with an Academic Coach.
